Breakfast of Champions – Or Not
May 6, 2009 by Administrator
I attended a breakfast seminar this morning, at 7:30 am, which was hosted by our Chamber of Commerce. The food offered was your typical continental breakfast of simple carbs (bagels, donuts, danishes) and fruit. I just had a plate of fruit and a cup of coffee. There was no protein to be found and I was kicking myself for not bringing any with me. I’m always teaching others to plan ahead, yet there I was unprepared and mad at myself. I ended up eating an omelet when I got home.
So what does a typical breakfast look like for someone after a fit and lean body?
What it doesn’t contain is simple carbs such as those found at my meeting this morning. This is your first meal after fasting all night long. Starting your day out with the right kind of nutrients ensures you will have energy to get everything done and not find yourself hungry within an hour.
Every breakfast should include:
1. A lean protein source (my favorite is 1 egg, 3 egg whites or natural chicken sausage)
2. Fresh veggies and/or fruit
3. A Whole Grain Source (Oats, Bran, Quinoa)
3. A healthy fat (butter, nut butter, olive oil, avocado, lowfat cheese)
4. A Whole Food Concentrate Multi-Vitamin (My favorite:VGF 25+)
5. Fish Oil Supplement (My favorite:Icon)
Of course, being sure you are within your daily caloric intake is important. If you own the Fit Homeschool Mom Transformation Guide there is a caloric chart to help you vary your intake according to your activity for the day.
Getting lean (not skinny) doesn’t involve rocket science, but it does require work and attention to detail. Once you’re lean, it’s so easy to remain that way if you have adopted healthier eating as a lifestyle rather than a diet.
Send me your questions. I’d love to hear them.

Thank you Angela for your breakfast layout! I was wondering why whole wheat toast was not mentioned? Is there a reason for that? Also, I get up at 6am and am hungry right away, so I eat a protein bar with a cup of coffee. Then about 9am I make a
breakfast for my family that includes eggs, ww toast, veggies, and fruit for the girls.
Does this sound alright or do you think that a person needs the bigger breakfast right away? Thank you ! Sarah-Lynn Mayer
