Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day everyone. My husband is off today so we are enjoying a half day of school. My oldest attended her school co-op and my 6th grader is only working on a science project today. We are almost halfway through our school year already and I don’t even know where it went. Seems like each day passes faster and faster.

That’s the thing though when it comes to fitness, each day will pass whether you decide to make changes or not. Why waste another day? Is it not possible for you to focus on one new, healthy habit this week? One change is doable. This week is going to pass anyways.

How many days, weeks or years have you let pass while you continue to say, I’ll start on Monday, tomorrow, or after the holidays? Don’t allow yourself to make excuses anymore.

Can you make one of these changes this week?

Drink one less coffee, tea or pop each day.

Eliminate one processed food item from your grocery list.

Learn one new, multi-joint exercise.

Write down everything you eat each day.

Drink 4 glasses of water each day.

No one said change had to be done all at once. Some people are able to do that without looking back, but I believe they are a small percentage.

Pick one goal this week and stick to it. Let me know what it is. My goal this week is to only drink two cups of coffee each day. I got a little out of hand with our -20 degree weather last week.

Come on! We’ll cheer each other on.

Hugs~~

Last year I took my first shot at planning 100 goals to finish in 100 days. I suprised myself by completing 80% of the goals on my list. I used a program created by Dax Moy called the Magic Hundred. If you participated in the 12 Days of Fitness then I’m sure you heard about it or even purchased it. If you did, don’t let this program sit around, use it right away.

One of the most incredible accomplishments last year was my trip to see my family for the first time in the Philippines. There is an adventure goal building exercise in the program that I am now a complete believer in. Prior to the Magic Hundred, I would have never imagined traveling to another country, especially since I didn’t even have a passport, but within the first 60 days of the program I found myself on an airplane traveling to see family I had never met before. I was so excited!

So this year, after sharing the program with my husband, we decided to involve our two older daughters in our goal making. Yesterday we spent an hour listening to the audios and creating our individual lists of 100 goals to finish in 100 days. It was really fun to see the spark in their eyes as they began dreaming of goals big and small to accomplish over the next several months.

We will meet again on April 2nd to create our second list of 100 goals for the year 2009.

There is a system to the Magic Hundred that is so simple but works so well. It really is magical how opportunities seem to come out of the woodwork to help you achieve your goals.

This blog that you’re reading right now was one of the goals on my original list of 100. There were many others that I accomplished such as spending one night a week on a date with my husband, starting a daily bible study with my girls, writing my first book, reading several specific books, finishing another certification course and becoming an RKC. I could go on but I think you can see that this program can be very powerful if used with dedication.

So, if you have been setting resolutions every year that never become reality, this program could change that for good.

Dax even has a free community set up for the users of the Magic Hundred. Talk with him and ask him questions you may have regarding the program before you purchase it. I met Dax last year in Connecticut for the first time and he is a genuine, transparent person.

Make 2009 your best year yet!

Hugs~~

Everyone knows how much a emphasize the importance of setting goals. You must make them realistic and achievable.

Start with a big goal and break it down into smaller goals by working backwards. I like to use this analogy. Say, my goal is to organize my kitchen. Well, that’s a pretty big goal! I don’t want to hole myself up in the kitchen forever, so how can I accomplish this without spending an entire weekend on it?

First determine what needs to be done to accomplish this goal:

1. Go through all the drawers and remove unused/unwanted items.

2. Go through all the pots and pans and get rid of unused/damaged items.

3. Go through the cabinets and get rid of unused/damaged items.

4. Go through pantry and get rid of unapproved food items, damaged goods, expired goods, etc.

Next, take #1 and break it down even further:

1. Pick one drawer and set a timer for 15 minutes. Go through the drawer until it is done. Pick another drawer tomorrow.

15 minutes is a much more manageable time frame and you know that by the end of the week, you will have tackled 7 drawers. Some days you might do more than one depending on how much clutter is in them.

This is the same approach you need to take with goal setting. Make your big goal and work backward with all the things you need to do to make this goal happen.

Let’s take this kitchen analogy a step further. There are some things that you might do that will impede your progress. Let’s say you are working on drawer number one and you see an item that belongs in the bathroom. You procede to take that item to the bathroom and come back to the kitchen. You see another item that belongs in your office so you trek to the office to put it back. More time wasted!

I’m sure you can see where I am going with this. We allowed ourselves to get sidetracked by these small items and have made the task of getting the drawer organized take a lot longer.

You should stop yourself and ask, “Is this activity I’m doing going to lead me closer to or further away from my goal?”

This applies to activities you are doing, foods you are eating, etc.

Make sure you are reading your goals twice a day: When you wake and when you are going to sleep. Keep them in the fore front of your mind.

Make sure everything you do is in tune with your goals.

It’s Monday and time to jump right back into my program after a week off. I am refreshed and rearing to go. I need to build up my strength for my RKC Certification and I’ve got less than 12 weeks to get it done. Having a specific goal to work toward keeps me focused and motivated.

It’s important that your goal is realistic. To tell yourself I want to lose 30 lbs. in 4 weeks is a recipe for disaster. You’ll be upset that you didn’t reach it and may cause yourself to quit altogether.

This time of year is a perfect time to sign up for a charity walk or run. Find one that is a couple months away and train specifically for it. Find a recreational team to join. Here in my area there are soccer and volleyball teams that you can join for fun.

Perhaps you have a wedding or family reunion in a few months. Use that date as a goal and work towards that.

Set a goal, make sure it’s realistic and go for it! Share it here! I’ll cheer you on!
