Turkey Facts

A lot of news this week…

I held a kettlebell workshop this past Saturday.  Everyone was doing so well we actually threw in an additional exercise.  Don’t worry if you missed out.  The workshop was video taped and the DVD will be available for purchase soon.

If you haven’t done so already, don’t forget to sign up for the free fitness event of the year, 12 Days of Fitness  I’m excited to have been invited to participate with over 250 of the world’s top fitness and health professionals offering audios, e-books, videos and more on nutrition, exercise and health issues.  Did I mention it’s no cost to you?  It begins December 10th.  Please tell all your friends about it.  We want to reach at least 500,000 people this year.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas looming ahead, I hear a lot of people worried about the holiday weight gain that seems inevitable.

Parties, potlucks, cookies, egg nog and the list goes on and on and on…

One thing I always look forward to at Thanksgiving and Christmas is turkey.  I love turkey!  Turkey is a great source of lean protein and you can get a whole bird for a great price.

Turkey is rich with selenium which can inhibit cancer development, improve your immune system and aid in the metabolism of your thyroid hormone.

It is also rich in Vitamin B6 and niacin which help prevent the accumulation of homocysteine in our bodies.  Homocysteine damages blood vessels increasing our risk for heart disease.  Turkey is a Superfood!

But really for me, it all boils down to tastes great, feeds my whole family of 6 with leftovers for a week and it’s very affordable.

I like to buy a couple while on sale and keep one in the deep freezer to cook later.

Do you have some great turkey recipes?  What do you like to do with your turkey leftovers?   Please send them to me and I’ll be sure and share them with every one else.

Let’s help each other stay on track this holiday season.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
